Arrival Instructions and Schedule

Getting to Hilton Head

From 1-95 North or South, take exit #8 to highway 278 and stay on it until you reach the island.  Take the Cross Island Expressway ($1.25) which exits onto Palmetto Bay Rd.  Follow Palmetto Bay Road to the Sea Pines Traffic Circle and take the first right onto Greenwood Drive.

Guest Pass Procedure

You will need to stop by the Sea Pines Welcome Center to pick up a guest pass.  This is a large building on the right-had side about ¼ miles off the circle.  Pull into the complex and follow the signs that say “Guest Passes” around the back of the building.  They have a drive-up window where you will give them your name and they will issue a pass.  Always display the Guest Pass on the left hand side of the dashboard.

For those of you taking a shuttle, cab, or being dropped off by someone,

tell the guard at the gate that you are being dropped off at the South Beach Marina Inn (our realtor),  Bluff Villas will probably work as well, and you should not have to pay the Sea Pines entrance fee.  My understanding is that the shuttle will let you off at the visitor center.  You may be able to bribe the shuttle driver to take you to Bluff Villas, but if you cannot, call me 610-308-2468 and I will pick you up (or some poor soul sharing my condo).

Getting to South Beach

When you pass the guard gate, stay on Greenwood Drive.  You will come to a small traffic circle (Fraser Circle) – go half way around and continue on Greenwood Drive.  When Greenwood Drive ends, turn right onto South Sea Pines Drive and travel about 1.5 miles to South Beach Marina Village (where the Salty Dog is), go past there and you will see the Bluff Villas on the right.  If you reach Lands End, you have gone too far.

Go into the Villas and find unit 1730, where I will be.  I will have all the keys.  My cell is 610-308-2468 – call if there are problems.  If you arrive Sunday morning, I might be on the courts at the South Beach Racquet Club, so look there if there is no one in the condo.

Check in time is 4:00, check-out 11:00AM on Saturday.  There is NO SMOKING inside any of the units.

Opening Pizza Party Sunday

The party will be in my condo, Bluff Villas unit 1730 at 6:30 on Sunday evening (note the earlier time for you experienced HHers.)  We will have some time to meet each other, meet the pros, and get any info that the pros want to impart.  Then the pizzas will arrive and no one will starve to death.

Tennis Clinic

Tennis will be 8:30 – 11:30 Mon – Fri.  Newbies gather at my place unit 1730 at 8:15 if no one in your unit guides you to the courts.  They are in walking distance.

After the daily tennis clinic

For those who cannot get enough tennis and want to put what you have learned into practice, you are allowed to book courts at the tennis club at no cost.  It is usually wise to book before the clinic, but usually not necessary.  People work at arranging their own after-clinic tennis, but you can also stay after the clinic to try to hook up with someone.

Private lessons can be arranged with the tennis club pros.

There is bike rental at the tennis club and several other places.  You can usually rent a bike for a week for about $20.

There is a community pool to which we will have passes and the beach is within a few minutes walk.

Group Party

I am planning on having the group party on Wednesday evening unless something at the restaurant I plan to use (same as last years if it is still there!) changes that.  More info as we go along.

Friday activities

After the clinic, the pros will treat us to a casual lunch that they bring in right at the courts.  After lunch, we will have a round robin.  After the round robin, there will be beer and wine to celebrate the end of another successful Hilton Head tennis week.  Friday around 3:30 is the end of all planned activities.

Eating

Each condo decides how they want to handle food.  Many people go out most nights – ask around about evening plans to see if you can hook up.  There are beaucoup restaurants in Sea Pines and just out of it!

I don’t think that there are any grocery stores in Sea Pines, but there are plenty on the road you came in on – Palmetto Bay Road and Pope Ave.
